Summary
CKD incurs enormous direct (dialysis, kidney transplantation) and indirect costs resulting in a tremendous economic burden. CKD is not publicly funded in many countries. Therefore, CKD is linked with economic hardships, poor quality of life, and premature deaths. The availability of a commercially viable, cost-effective product to manage CKD will help to solve the cost crisis in the healthcare Development of traditional herbal formula with scientific validation will help to earn more foreign exchange to the country. This study is focused on investigating the nephroprotective efficacy of the herbal distillate prepared according to the ayurvedic heritage of Hettigoda family.
Objectives
- To evaluate the phytochemical analysis, biochemical efficacy, cytotoxicity and nephroprotective activity of the traditional herbal formulation in vitro for the management and treatment of kidney disease using a kidney cell line.
- To evaluate the shelf life of the herbal distillate to confirm the shelf life
- To investigate the nephroprotective activity of the traditional preparations against in vivo in a Wistar rat model.
- To open a new income avenue to increase the foreign exchange in the country
