The National Science Exposition- 2023, a three-day exhibition showcasing the science shaping our future, was held at the Natural History Museum and the surrounding area, aiming to popularize science, technology, and research knowledge among the society. Led by the Education Ministry’s Research and Innovation Branch, a number of public and private sector organizations participated in the event. Organized in celebration of the World Science Day, the exposition was planned around ten themes ranging from the origin of human beings, frontier science and technology, to career opportunities in science etc. In this context, complex scientific concepts and current research were presented in interactive ways using creative displays, models, simulators, and other forms of presentation. It allowed experts and professionals from academia and scientific institutions to connect with the general public, especially school students actively promoting their interest in science and innovation. The National Research Council was tasked with arranging the gallery themed “Mysteries of The Human Body to Healthy Life”. With the help of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Department of Pathology of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo our stall featured unique anatomical specimens including human fetuses representing different stages, placenta, lung carcinoma and cirrhotic liver. Through the support of the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (IBMBB) the stall also demonstrated nutraceutical products enhancing health, the role of bioinformatics in drug discovery, and the benefits of meditation on wellbeing. Medical students and graduate students from University of Colombo served as exhibitors, bringing their passion and knowledge to the event. Our collective effort brought in a considerable audience, successfully achieving the goal of igniting curiosity and learning in the young minds and nurturing their interest in STEM fields.
