National Statistics on Research Publications
Introduction
The South Asian countries have identified Science & Technology as an important component of National Development. In 2006 Sri Lanka’s R & D expenditure was 0.2% of GDP and that of India 1.1%, Pakistan 0.3 % and Nepal 0.2 %. East–Asian countries invest 1.5 – 2.5 % of GDP on R & D.
Sri Lanka is behind many Asian countries, in published research , but statistics from 1998 onwards show that there is a very significant upward trend in Sri Lanka’s scientific productivity.
This study, based on SCI publications, indicate where Sri Lanka stands in the world scene and the output of published research in our R & D organizations. This study also highlights the top ranker for each year, in the country.
