The NRC successfully conducted the first outreach programme for 2017, “Biofilm Biofertilizer: Towards a greener Sri Lanka (with special reference to vegetable cultivation in NuwaraEliya)”, which was held at the “CHOGM Hall”, District Secretariat Office, NuwaraEliya, on 27th January 2017.
Resource persons: Prof. Gamini Seneviratne (NRC Grant No: 11-056, National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS) and Eng. Samuditha Kumarasinghe, Director Operations, Lanka Bio Fertilizers (Pvt) Limited.
Target Audience: Farmers and Agriculture Officers from Nuwara Eliya,Seetha Eliya, Kandapola areas.
Summary: This was a one day field programme for farmer awareness on Biofilm Biofertilizer, along with field visits and a meeting with farmers and officers (stakeholders). This biofertilizer was developed with partial financial support from the NRC, and can cut down chemical fertilizer use by up to 50%.
This event was organized by the NIFS in collaboration with the NRC and Lanka Biofertilizers (Pvt.) Ltd. (LBF), commercial producer of Biofilmed biofertilizers. The event was partially funded by LBF.
